Business License in Malaysia, WRT & Activity License

Before an enterprise can legally start its business, companies are required to comply with some form of license, which could be a general license specific to the industrial / industrial license or a specific business license. Commercial licenses are required by law and are managed by various government bodies, statutory bodies and local authorities. Commercial licenses include registrations, approvals, licenses and permits. Compliance requirements vary by sector, activity and location.

Companies operating in Malaysia must apply for business licenses and signboard license from their respective state authorities. The requirements for the application of a commercial premises license and a license plate may vary according to local authorities.

The most common license required for a foreign company is the wholesale and retail license (WRT). This WRT license applies to any foreign participation (that is to say 51% or more of foreign capital) in Malaysia's distributed trading services, including wholesalers, retailers, franchisees, direct sellers, suppliers who direct their activities to local agents and commission on the market or other representatives of international trading companies. The WRT license is required by all the business sectors mentioned before they can apply for a professional work permit. For WRT, the minimum capital requirement paid is 1 million RM, with a complete corporate organization, with business premises supported by a valid rental contract, telephone line and more. Please refer to the official portal of the Ministry of Internal Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) for more details on the WRT license
